FCL or LCL

Where the 13 CBM break-even sits

LCL to the USA runs about USD 150–250 per CBM. At 15 CBM that is USD 2,250–3,750 — already inside the 20ft band, but a container gives you up to 30 CBM, a sealed box and no Surabaya transload.

  1. Under 10 CBM

Ship LCL and pay only for the space you use.

  2. 10–13 CBM

Ask for both quotes and compare real numbers.

  3. 13 CBM and up

FCL wins on price per CBM and on handling risk.

Asked constantly

FCL container questions

Can I mix furniture, art and personal effects in one container?

Yes, under one consignee and one commercial invoice with an HS code per line. Fragile art and stonework are crated separately inside. For Australia, declare used household goods up front so fumigation paperwork is arranged before loading.

Is my container loaded in Bali or Surabaya?

In Bali — at your villa, warehouse or supplier’s workshop. It is packed and sealed on site, and the seal stays intact until destination customs, unlike LCL cargo transshipped via Surabaya, Java and Singapore.

Who pays import duty when my container arrives?

The consignee — the importer of record — pays import duty, GST or VAT and destination customs charges. Our quote covers origin and freight in full, with a written duty estimate before booking.

How far ahead should I book an FCL container?

Two to three weeks is comfortable for positioning, packing and documents. Add margin in Q4, when peak demand tightens equipment and space — shipping off-peak tends to price better too.

Is a 40ft high cube worth it over a standard 40ft?

Yes, if any piece stands taller than about 2.3 metres crated — carved doors, armoires, garden statues. A high cube adds roughly 10 CBM and a foot of height; we quote both so you can compare.
