How it works

Exporting from Bali without a tax number

Guide rates in USD as of 2026, subject to change — your all-in quote fixes the actual number.

Why foreigners need an export agent

Indonesian customs doesn’t deal with tourists. Every export is lodged electronically through the Indonesia National Single Window (INSW), and only a registered Indonesian exporter — with an NPWP tax number and customs access — can lodge one.

The legitimate answer: vetted licensed Indonesian export partners act as exporter of record, the shipment moves under their licensing, and your name appears only as consignee at destination.

What it costs without a tax number

Published Bali LCL rates typically include ocean freight, Bali–Surabaya trucking, multi-location pickup, export packing, documents and humidity absorbers. Near 13 CBM, a dedicated 20ft container usually beats paying per cubic metre.

On air, security runs about USD 0.50 per kg and fuel adds 15–25% of freight. Budget extra for wood or stone endorsements and phytosanitary certificates where materials need them.

  • LCL sea to the USA: USD 150–250 per CBM
  • FCL 20ft (~30 CBM): USD 2,500–4,500
  • FCL 40ft (~60 CBM): USD 4,000–7,000
  • Air economy: USD 4–7 per kg
  • Insurance: about 2% of declared value

How multi-shop consolidation works

A daybed in Seminyak, two carved doors from Ubud, ceramics in Canggu, a stone statue near Batubulan: four sellers, four invoices. The agent collects from each, holds everything at one warehouse, photographs and inventories every item, then packs the lot as one shipment priced per CBM.

LCL cargo is trucked to Surabaya and transshipped via Singapore, so export-grade crating is standard. FCL is loaded and sealed in Bali — safer for high-value stone and glass once volume justifies it.

Paperwork filed on your behalf

The standard Indonesian export set, prepared under partner licensing. For Australia, fumigation and treatment papers for wood, rattan and used household goods are arranged in Bali before the container closes.

  • Commercial invoice with 2025 HS codes
  • Packing list matching the photo inventory
  • Certificate of Origin
  • Bill of Lading or Air Waybill
  • Wood, stone or phytosanitary endorsements

How long until your goods arrive

Guide figures as of 2026, subject to carrier schedules. At destination you clear as consignee, paying your country’s import duty and GST/VAT — estimated for you before you commit.

  • USA: 6–12 weeks by sea
  • Australia: 4–8 weeks, plus biosecurity screening
  • Europe: 6–12 weeks by sea
  • Air, every route: 3–10 business days

Asked constantly

Export agent questions

Can I export furniture from Bali without an NPWP or Indonesian company?

Yes. Vetted licensed Indonesian export partners lodge the declaration as exporter of record, so no NPWP, PT company or customs registration is needed on your side. You appear only as consignee in the destination country.

How do I pay a Bali export agent after I’ve left Indonesia?

By international bank transfer or card, against an itemised invoice issued once your goods are collected and photo-inventoried. As of 2026, no Indonesian bank account, cash handover or return trip to Bali is required.

Can one agent collect purchases from several Bali shops?

Yes — that is the core of consolidation. Pickup across Denpasar, Ubud, Seminyak, Canggu and nearby workshops is typically included in Bali LCL rates, and everything travels as one shipment priced per CBM.

Do I pay tax in Indonesia when exporting my purchases?

Generally no export duty applies to furniture, handicrafts and personal purchases leaving Indonesia. Taxes arrive at destination: as consignee you pay your country’s import duty and GST/VAT. We estimate those before you book — as of 2026, subject to change.

What if a shop only gave me a handwritten receipt, or none?

Common in Bali, and workable. The agent prepares the commercial invoice from your actual purchase details using current HS codes. Keep payment proof and photos, and declare what you genuinely paid — customs can query values that look artificially low.
